We rebuilt the interior of this old factory into a space that’s cozy and comfortable, with an open area under a hanging garden, and booths for people who prefer a quieter space.
Our decor is inspired by the idea that nature will inevitably reclaim whatever humans can build. The rusty steel and concrete will be slowly enveloped by the emerging plant life as we age, softening the cold hardness you might expect from brutalist design.
Heated and air conditioned, we also have an outdoor forecourt for sunny days and smokers. Bar snacks are available, Tom does a very tasty charcuterie board, and you’re welcome to phone in food deliveries – and leave the mess to us.

You might find the dart board, or retro video game machine to be a fun diversion, and we have board games for the asking.
Gales is doggo friendly and your pooch might even get treated to a bickie made from our own spent grain.
We recommend you arrive by tram, bicycle or on foot as there is limited parking in the area, and the parking police are vigilant! We have plenty of bike parking on site.
Bookings & Venue Hire

Gales can cater for groups of 10 to 100. If your group is 40 or more, we can discuss a venue bookout. Gales doesn’t charge a venue hire fee, rather we apply a minimum spend, depending on the size and duration of your function. We can provide wrist bands if you’d like to run a bar tab.
We can provide a large video screen, TV on a stand, and a microphone for speeches or announcements. If you book the entire venue you can connect your mobile device to use your own music playlists. If you’re bringing your own device, you’ll need to know how to use the Jam function on Spotify, and how to cast to a smart TV if you have video or photo material. For the big screen you need to bring your material on a USB drive, formatted for PC.
We don’t have a commercial kitchen and you’re welcome to bring your own catering (unless we have a food truck that day), or book your preferred food truck. We have vendors we regularly use. We can provide a long table for grazing layouts, a microwave and a pie warmer.
